Historical perspective:

Ancient art of herbal medicine in Japan.
Kanpo has been in existence as the Chinese Method (Kanpo) since 600 CE when it entered Japan alongside Buddhism introduced by monks and scholars.
It passed through a phase of adaptations and practical refinements to emerge with a unique system that matches a person's symptom patterns to the herbal formula which forms the basis of an individually tailored treatment.

Kanpo Japanese Herbalism is very well suited to treat the following conditions:

  • Nervous system: Disturbed Sleep, Stress, Headaches.
  • Immune System: Chronic infections, Hayfever, Candida.
  • Skin: Acne, Eczema, Fungal infections.
  • Muscular and skeletal system: Rheumatic and joint pain, Cramps, Sprains, Backache.
  • Cardiovascular system: Palpitations, High Blood Pressure (HBP), Circulatory problems.
  • Digestive System: Dyspepsia, Nausea, Malabsorption problems, Thrush, Irritable bowel and Inflammatory bowel problems, Constipation.
  • Respiratory system: Sinusitis, Bronchial problems, Colds.
  • Gynaecological: PMT/PMS, problems with fertility, pre-and post-natal care, etc.
  • Urinary problems: Cystitis, Urethritis, prostrate problems, etc.

As Kanpo herbal medicine shares a number of theoretical key features with Acupuncture it can be applied to a much wider range of energetic irregularities in the body. However, it is always wise to keep your medical professional or GP informed when taking herbs especially for conditions receiving long term medical care.

Cost of treatment:

The initial assessment lasting 1 hour with standard rates applying, plus cost of herbs. Subsequent treatments take between 30 and 45 minutes. The length of treatment depends very much on the conditions addressed.
The typical costs for the herbal preparations range from as low as £1.20 to £1.50 per day, depending on a person's individual condition. If you have more specific questions do not hesitate to contact me.

Kanpo herbal preparations:

In Japan and beyond the herbal material is regularly presented in granulated or tablet form. The advantage is two-fold, as Kanpo preparations are convenient to take and the control of quality standards in manufacturing meets all the regulatory and modern health demands in contemporary society.
Dosages are very easy to maintain without any question of how much and when to administer throughout the day.

The ancient art of Kanpo in a modern world:

Herbal medicine in Japan today is very much concerned with supporting people with contemporary medical conditions living in a modern environment similar to our European or North American settings.
Extensive studies are ongoing in hospitals and places of research to meet safety standards set by the Health Department of the Japanese Government.

Kanpo Herbalism as it works today:

The work of adapting the traditional system into the current context of required applications is ongoing and increasing numbers of modern town dwelling Japanese are taking advantage of this ancient system.
The classical combinations of different herbs that are typically used to create an action profile are now matched to the problems as they occur today. This can range from simple management of stress with high blood pressure and rising blood sugar levels to support in the palliative sector when cancer or other debilitating chronic conditions may be present.
The formulae are selected to match a set of symptoms that are unique to a person's pattern of supplementation required.
It can be used for a whole host of symptoms ranging from simple colds to more complex chronic patterns of immunity related challenges.
